
Gastroenterologist
Your Profile:
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Gastroenterologist to join our team. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and liver diseases. This role involves collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to patients with digestive health issues.

Requirements:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution;
- Completion of a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Gastroenterology;
- Board certification in Gastroenterology and GI-endoscopy;
- Valid medical license to practice;
- Proficiency in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to Gastroenterology;
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient care skills;
- Working proficiency in English; knowledge of an additional language is a plus.
Tasks:
- Conduct thorough patient assessments to diagnose GI conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Inflammatory Bowel Disease, GERD, liver disease, and oncology of the digestive tract, pancreas, and liver;
- Develop and implement individualized and tailored treatment plans based on patient needs and clinical guidelines;
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, and sigmoidoscopies;
- Monitor and evaluate patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary;
- Utilize information obtained from advanced diagnostic techniques such as Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), capsule endoscopy, and liver biopsies;
- Interpret diagnostic tests, including imaging studies and laboratory results, to guide patient care.

SMMC has started the construction of the new St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH) to expand its services to accommodate the increased care demand of the people of St. Maarten, its visitors, and neighboring islands.
