Your Profile:

As a Pediatrician, you provide medical care to a very diverse population. You have a natural emphatic character and a broad interest in all aspects of Pediatric Medicine. You are willing to work in a small team to perform your duties in the broadest sense possible. Providing quality care is of utmost importance in addition to maintaining the continuity of care for our patients. You are enthusiastic about your job and willing to actively contribute to the daily operation of our hospital as well as the improvements and developments for the future of our organization.

Requirements:

• Registered as a Pediatrician;
• Great interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of flexibility;
• Patient-centered with a great bedside manner;
• Ambitious and willing to ensure continuity and quality of care;
• Good command of the English language. Ability to speak and understand Dutch, Spanish or French is considered a plus.

Tasks:

• Examines, diagnoses and treats patients, if necessary using information and data from other medical disciplines and in coordination and consultation with other medical specialists and other care providers;
• Writes treatment plans and records relevant data;
• Coordinates multidisciplinary patient care;
• Prescribes and administers medication, provides information to patients and performs medical procedures;
• Visits patients, assesses the health status and stability of the patient in relation to the treatment plan and adjusts the plan if necessary;
• Contributes to the development and execution of quality management.

With more than 425 FTE’s, 28 Specialists and a capacity of 80 beds, we continuously strive to ensure safe, quality health care. Our primary service area of St. Maarten, Statia and Saba, represents a total population of approximately 60.000 people, constituting a multi-cultural mix with more than 100 different nationalities. In addition, we also offer health care services to two million visitors annually. SMMC has started the construction of the new St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH) to expand its services to accommodate the increased care demand of the people of St. Maarten, its visitors, and neighboring islands. The new hospital is planned to be operational in 2026.
