SMGH staff member assisting a visitor

To locate a patient’s room, please inquire with the staff at the Service Desk, located directly at the main entrance of SMGH. A calm and peaceful environment must be maintained throughout the hospital, including during visiting hours. Only two visitors are allowed at the patient’s bedside at a time; however, visitors may rotate. In the interest of the patient, family members and friends are kindly requested to coordinate their visits to prevent the patient from becoming overly tired by the end of visiting hours.

We kindly ask visitors who are experiencing flu-like symptoms to refrain from visiting the hospital or to wear a face mask (available at the Service Desk), in order to protect our staff and patients. In addition, we request that all visitors use the provided hand sanitizer and practice proper hand hygiene before entering any patient room.

Special Visiting Privileges

For patients with specific circumstances or medical needs, SMGH offers flexible visiting arrangements beyond our regular visiting hours. These special privileges are designed to support your loved one's comfort and recovery.

Extended Visiting for Seriously Ill Patients

If a patient is seriously ill or in a critical condition, one (1) visitor may request to remain at the bedside outside of regular visiting hours. Please speak with the unit supervisor or nursing staff to arrange this. We understand the importance of having loved ones close during difficult times, and we work with families to make this possible.

Extra Visitor's Card

An "extra" visitor's card can be issued to a family member or support person who needs to visit a patient outside of regular visiting hours. The ward supervisor will specify the approved visit times on the card, and only the named family member may use this privilege. This option works well for family members who need flexibility due to work or caregiving responsibilities.

Room-In Privileges for Spouses and Parents

The spouse of a patient in a private room, or a parent of a child admitted to the Pediatric Ward, may request to stay overnight. A cot is provided when available. Please coordinate with the nursing staff before your intended overnight stay.

Before and After Surgery

Immediate family members are welcome to visit patients before and after surgery outside of regular visiting hours. Please notify the nursing staff when you arrive so we can ensure the patient is ready to receive you.

To arrange any special visiting privileges, simply ask any member of the nursing staff or speak with the unit supervisor. We're here to help.
