Payments And Billing

Insurance Coverage

Please inform your insurance company prior to admission for pre-authorization and to confirm coverage. Pre-authorization does not guarantee full payment. We recommend close liaison with your insurance company throughout your treatment.

Types of Insurance Coverage:

Full Coverage

While many local providers offer full coverage, exceptions and regulations may exist. Patients are responsible for inquiring about these exceptions. If the insurance company does not pay the bill, or only partially pays, the patient is responsible for the outstanding balance.

Partial Coverage

Some providers pay 80% of medical bills, with the patient responsible for the remaining 20%. A deposit against the patient's portion of estimated charges will be requested upon registration.

Foreign Insurance Coverage

Some providers pay 80% of medical bills, with the patient responsible for 20%. A deposit will be requested upon registration.

No Insurance Coverage

Uninsured patients will be expected to make a deposit based on estimated total charges. After services, SMGH will produce a billing statement, and the bill is expected to be settled upon discharge.

If insurance is in order, the hospital will invoice the insurance company directly. However, if patients receive invoices from consultants after discharge, they must forward these to their insurance company for payment.

Take home medicines and physiotherapy aids are not covered by private medical insurance and will be billed separately where applicable.
